Nostell Miners Welfare recorded their second consecutive Toolstation NCEL Premier Division victory after winning 2-1 against Pickering Town at Crofton.

Extraordinary was the word used to describe the win at Bridlington Town on Saturday and it could be applied to Simon Poole’s deadlock breaker for Nostell.

Poole spotted Pickering goalkeeper Arran Reid off-the-line and from 40 yards from goal, the attacker lobbed him and sent the ball into the top corner.

Debutant George Bissett, signed from Tadcaster last week, did go close for Pickering, but Nostell held out and Connah Judson was the scorer of the second goal after some good teamwork.

Pickering star man Bissett did reduce the deficit late-on. Pickering would cause the home side problems in their bid to find an equaliser, but Nostell refused to let the three points slip.

Pickering Town: Reed, Ingram, Danby, Turnbull, Bissett, Cooper, Ward, Kamara, Tilsley, Bennett, Dalton. Subs: Rice, Triumbari, Hutchinson, Heads.
