Let’s get physical is the message from Dave Ricardo as Selby Town prepare to host Teversal with a new signing in tow.
Attacker Luke Anderson has signed for Selby from Winterton, a deal that was tied up before Ricardo’s assistant Lee Hastings became their manager and has seen Ben Silburn go the other way.
Anderson is likely to make his debut for the visit of Teversal in Toolstation NCEL Division One.
It is a different kind of test for Selby, who annihilated Askern 12-0 in the FA Vase on Saturday.
Ricardo told Non League Yorkshire: “On paper September is a difficult month.
“We have Teversal, Hull United, Penistone and Glasshoughton and all four sides are physical teams.
“We have to make sure we earn the right to play and not just boss poorer sides. We have to make sure we do the same against more physical sides.
“The likes of Teversal, Mick Norbury’s sides, Curtis Woodhouse’s sides and Ian Richards’s side are always going to be up for a fight.
“Teversal have started really well as well. It is one thing breaking down a side below us in the pyramid and also down to ten man.
“It is another thing breaking down hard-working physical sides.”
After seven league games, Selby find themselves in fifth position.
Selby have managed to beat strugglers Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Winterton and strugglers Grimsby Borough on two occasions.
However, Ricardo’s side have lost to Dronfield, Hemsworth and Bottesford. He still insists his side have started well.
“What I would say is that we struggled against the so-called lesser sides and probably did better against the sides above us last season,” he added.
“We have won six out of nine games this season and most clubs at this level would take that.
“It is not a record that would put you top of the Division, but it would put you up there.
“As it stands we’re in fifth placed. We have a lot of good players and the atmosphere is fantastic.
“We have a good group of players and they’re very receptive of what we’re trying to do.”
