Popular Harrogate Railway defender Mike Morris is heading out on loan to build his fitness up after coming back from a broken leg.

Morris was a key player in previous manager Billy Miller’s squad last season until breaking his leg on New Year’s Day at Farsley Celtic.

Morris recently returned to action and made his comeback in the 3-1 defeat at Brighouse Town on the second week of the Evo Stik Division One North season.

Current Railway chief Ashforth said: “Mike’s problem is that he’s only here at the weekends.

“He’s down in London during the week and Mike just wants to play. He’s coming back from a massive long term injury and what I’ve said to Mike is that he’ll struggle to get in the 16.

“Mike is a great lad to have around, but he probably does need to go out and get games.

“I know he has spoken to a couple of managers this week, but it will be a case of who takes him with him being available only at weekends.

“I’ll certainly keep in touch with him because he has been fantastic for us in the last couple of years.”

Another player whose Station View career is unclear is the versatile Jason Mycoe.

The former Leeds United apprentice has found the journey over from East Yorkshire hard and has not appeared since being replaced in the second half of the 6-0 defeat to Scarborough Athletic two weeks ago.

Ashforth added: “Jason just needed a couple of weeks break from it.

“He is finding the travelling difficult as he has been coming over from Hull.

“He has been fantastic for us over the last 12 months and he’s a friend now.

“I respect his decision to have a couple of weeks off and I’ve since had a chat with him and he’s coming training on Wednesday.

“We’ll chat about the decision he wants to make then. The difficultly for Jason now is that we have won our last two games and I don’t think a player of his quality wants to sit on the bench.

“He’s wants to be playing every week.”
