Yorkshire Amateur’s star goalkeeper Suruwa Bojang has incredibly been turning in man of the match displays with a broken arm.

Bojang picked up the injury on the opening day of the Toolstation NCEL Division One season, but has played twice since.

He was finally diagnosed with a fractured arm this week and faces six weeks on the sidelines.

“It is quite bizarre how it has all happened,” Ammers joint manager Rick Addy told Non League Yorkshire.

“He played against Hull United and got the injury halfway through the game, but played on.

“He has played two games since, but we found out earlier this week that he actually broke his arm on the first day.

“He has played twice with a broken arm and was man of the match in one of them – the Knaresborough. He saved us in that one.

“It has made it a lot worse. The doctors hadn’t noticed it at the time because they say it was too swollen.”

Former Thackley stopper Mark Bower is standing in for Bojang as Ammers look to move up the table with a win at Shirebrook Town tomorrow afternoon.

The Leeds-based side lie in mid-table after two wins, one draw and two defeats from their opening five league matches.

On how the season has begun, Addy added: “I’m relatively happy with how we have started the season.

“We are still growing as a group and I’m being realistic to say that we’re aiming for the top ten. I’ll be happy with that.

“Other teams have strengthened like Hallam. I think the league is stronger than last year.

“I saw Hallam play Bottesford, I’ve been to Emley and it has been a little bit eye-opening.

“We’ll see where we are after ten games and take it from there.”
