Considering their tough opening eight Toolstation NCEL Division One games, Leon Sewelll is “content” with how Westella VIP have acclimatised to their new heights.
Westella have won two and lost the other six – but have faced the likes of fancied sides Hallam, Hull United, AFC Mansfield and Hemsworth Miners Welfare in the other four.
Sewell said: “It has been a bit hit and miss, but it is a massive learning curve and a big step-up from the Central Midlands League.
“Anybody who says it isn’t is lying. That’s unless you have some pennies behind you and paying your players.
“That’s something we don’t do. Our players do it off their own back. They get their travelling expenses covered, but that’s it.
“When you consider the teams who have come up from the Humber Premier League and Central Midlands League like Hull United and AFC Mansfield, they’ll be up there at the end of the season.
“If you look at the league table, out of our seven league games we have played the top five. Out of the bottom half we have only played Eccleshill and Shirebook.
“I’m content with how we have started.”
Westella return to action on Wednesday night after an eight day break when they host Worsbrough Bridge.
The break has allowed some of their injured players to have more time to recover.
