More chances followed with Luke Anderson forcing a diving save from Penistone goalkeeper Adam Rhodes.
Eventually the deadlock was broken with substitute Chris Jackson firing home from close range.
Penistone responded by throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at the home side and had a goal ruled out for offside within minutes.
Selby’s position was made harder by the dismissal of Finn Kelly for a second bookable offence.
With pressure mounting, captain Dane Mortimer conceded a penalty and Moore stepped up and scored.
