Ossett Town are up to ninth in the Evo Stik Division One North table after a 2-1 victory at Clitheroe.
Ossett led 2-0 until a 75th minute goal from Scott Bakker goal for Clitheroe ensured a nerve-jangling finish for John Reed’s men.
It was a positive afternoon for his side, who started brightly. When Chris Ovington attacked for Town on 19 minutes down the right wing his precise pass played in David Brown who tried to take it round Guthrie in the Clitheroe goal only to be brought down and the referee had no hesitation but to give a penalty.
Brown took the responsibility and calmly sent the keeper the wrong way to put Town 1-0 up.
On 44 minutes David Lynch for the home side had a shot from outside of the box heading for the top corner of the goal but Tom Morgan in goal pulled off a good save.
The lead was doubled midway through the second half when an excellent ball from Brown found Nathan Curtis in the penalty area and his firmly struck angled low shot beat the keeper.
A Clitheroe corner was headed clear by Curtis then on 75 minutes their pressure paid off when a long range shot from Bakkor beat Morgan in goal to make it 2-1.
It was backs to the wall in the last 10 minutes for Town and they conceded three corners in succession but the defence held firm.
In time added on substitute Hampson for the home side broke away down the left but Lee Connor put the ball out for a corner from which Dent headed it out and with it Clitheroe’s last chance.
