Curtly Martin-Wyatt scored a long range strike for Garforth in their 2-0 win over Nostell

Two first half goals eased Garforth Town to a 2-0 victory over Nostell Miners Welfare at Wheatley Park last night.

Strikes from Luke Mangham and Curtly Martin-Wyatt returned Garforth back to winning ways and earned them redemption for the 6-1 defeat to Nostell last season.

Injury-hit Nostell, who had a few chances in the second half, are stuck in a rut and the defeat was their sixth on the bounce.

Paul Lines and his side now have a crunch Toolstation NCEL Premier Division clash with strugglers Athersley Rec coming up on Saturday.

Defensively Nostell were wide open at the start and Mark Simpson exploited the holes inside the first three minutes.

On that occasion, Nostell’s new goalkeeper Ed Hall made the save. He could not do anything about the deadlock breaker soon after as Mangham was given time and space to drill a shot home from the edge of the penalty area.

Garforth’s Danny Harris then hit the post as Graham Nicholas’ men cranked up the pressure.

The home support had to wait until the end of the first half for the second goal when Martin-Wyatt unleashed a tremendous strike from 30 yards which had too much power and accuracy for Hall.

Nostell created the odd opening in the response and also wasted a glorious opportunity from an indirect free kick.

Hall did also make a couple of excellent saves to keep Garforth at bay.
