Graham Nicholas is full of praise for his Garforth Town players
Graham Nicholas has given his Garforth Town players the thumbs-up after breaking into the top eight in midweek.
After five wins in eight Toolstation NCEL Premier Division matches, the Miners were seventh in the table.
Although his side face a huge test at Handsworth Parramore tomorrow, Garforth have given themselves a good chance of having a good campaign.
And Nicholas is full of praise for his young squad.
He told Non League Yorkshire: “I think it has been a positive start to the season considering the fixture that we were dealt at the start of the year.
“We have had Brid away, Cleethorpes away, Barton away and we have played Albion Sports and Worksop Town and one or two of the other big teams.
“To be on 16 points after eight games is pleasing, but we need to keep the momentum and get the consistency in the performances.
“I do have a settled squad and it is a fantastic squad. I keep singing their praises, but credit goes to the players.
“I have players who are working for each other and they all get along on-and-off-the-pitch which is fantastic.
“For me that is the main core of success if players enjoy each other’s company.
“It has been a process of building the right team and getting the right players in.
“Once as last season ended I was on the phone to players, but not to players who would say ‘oh I can’t make it midweek’.
“Going to Brid on a midweek with a strong squad showed that.”
After losing to Albion Sports last Saturday, Garforth bounced back with a comfortable 2-0 win over Nostell Miners Welfare on Tuesday night.
Nicholas added: “It was fantastic to get back to winning ways and to get the three points.
“It was a disappointing performance against Albion Sports given that we beat them 4-1 in the FA Vase.
“We gave a strong performance in that game, but I think we were unlucky on Saturday.
“We should have had a penalty at 1-0, but we were disappointed with the end result.
“We wanted to put it right on Tuesday night and we owed one to Nostell because of last season’s embarrassing result there.”
