Will luck change for Worsbrough?

Mark Joyce hopes there will be light at the end of the tunnel for Worsbrough Bridge very soon.

The Barnsley-based side have endured a turbulent few months after their floodlights failed during a pre-season friendly with Parkgate in July.

Bridge have only played one home game since – the 7pm kick off with Penistone Church last month – and several Toolstation NCEL Division One home games have been either switched or postponed.

Worsbrough play their first game at Bridge Road since then tomorrow when Dronfield Town visit.

Joyce declined to comment on rumours that the club would ground-sharing with either Grimethorpe or Kinsley Boys, but did tell Non League Yorkshire: “When it happened it was devastating because everything was positive.

“We had a new chairman, new management team and lots of new players coming to the club and then the lights go out.

“When people came to look at them, you’re talking £30,000 or £40,000 to get them fixed. Nobody has that kind of money in Non League football to get your floodlights fixed.

“The club are looking for solutions, but at this moment in time we don’t know where we’re going to be.

“Hopefully everything will get sorted soon. Whether that’s getting the lights fixed or we ground-share, I don’t know because I only look after the playing side.”

The off-the-field backdrop has disrupted Joyce’s aim of guiding Worsbrough to a successful season.

His side opened the campaign well, but results have nose-dived recently. Bridge have also lost star striker Ollie Fearon and Joyce has struggled to sign new players.

He added: “It is hard attracting players because people ask ‘where are you playing’ because of the rumours going around.

“Talks are ongoing at the minute, but it is difficult because no-one knows what’s really going on at the moment.

“We had a bright start to the season, but we’re finding it hard now.

“We’re not looking for excuses, but that is how it is at Worsbrough at the minute.

“We just need to stick together, dig deep and come through it.

“We have to find a way a back into it. We’ll work hard in training and see if we can turn it around.

“We do have a couple of players injured so hopefully when we get everyone back we build again.

“We also need to build from the back as we have conceded too many goals in the last few games.

“We’re at home tomorrow and hopefully we can turn our season around.”
