Eccleshill United surrendered a 2-0 lead against Selby Town and had debutant James Beck to thank for ensuring them a 2-2 draw at the death.

A Eccleshill break mid way through the half saw the hosts take the lead against the run of play, Adam Turner with a classy long range strike gave the home side the advantage with their first shot on goal.

Selby went close immediately after with the lively Jamie Forrester spotting the keeper off his line, but his long range shot floated just over the crossbar. The Robins had sustained pressure and possession- Forrester, Luke Anderson and Tom Chamberlain all with shots on goal.

Eccleshill had a revival towards the end of the half forcing Gibson into a good save before they caught the retreating Elvings out and Luke Harrop doubled the advantage against the run of play (2-0 35 minutes). Town very unlucky not to be on the scoreboard at half time but two defensive lapses had cost them dearly.

Forrester and Chamberlain continued to create early in the second half, Anderson also having a great chance to pull one back but he again shot over the crossbar. Craig Muirhead ran well all afternoon and had at least three shots on goal before finally giving Town a lifeline.

A Ash Hope free kick found Anderson who squared the ball across the goal face for Muirhead to tap home in front of the Town fans. Keane Parsons, Kelly and then Jones all entered the field for Town- the latter providing a neat ball for Chamberlain who almost found an equaliser.

Town once more went close through Muirhead with 10 minutes remaining before Robinson provided sub Parsons with a quality ball which he shot at the advancing Eccleshill keeper. The ball rebounded to Parsons right foot and this time he lobbed the keeper to level the game for the Robins.

Town not happy with a solitary point pushed for a winner and they almost found one – first through Chamberlain who found the top netting and then through Parsons. Town repelled a late Eccleshill attack and returned to Selby with a hard fought draw after showing outstanding fighting spirit throughout the game.
