Westella add strength to squad

Westella VIP won 5-2 at Rossington Main

Westella VIP have signed three players

Leon Sewell has being adding strength to his side by signing up three new players to his Westella VIP side.

Andy Coverdale has returned to Westella after a brief spell at Bridlington Town, who he signed for in the summer. He played in the 5-2 win at Rossington on Saturday.

Secondly, University of Hull law degree student, Jake Vernon has returned to the local area after plying his trade in the North West and also featured as a regular last season for Toolstation NCEL Division One side Rossington Main.

Sewell has seen himself go back to the Central Midlands League to sign the highly rated Neil Shepperd from Thorne Colliery.

“Three very worthy players have joined us and it goes to show that players want to come and put the Westella shirt on,” Sewell said.

“Unfortunately for Andy things haven’t gone the way he would of liked at Bridlington, we had a conversation at the end of last season and he was honest by saying he wanted to test himself at Bridlington which is fair enough, and we parted terms on the basis that he would always be welcome back.

“Thanks to Gary Allanson, Bridlington Town manager for signing the transfer forms enabling Andy to play over the weekend.

“I also owe another thank you to ex Rossington Main manager Steve Brennan who put me in contact with Jake Vernon. An exciting player that will be looking to push his way in to the side.

“As for Neil Shepperd he is a player I’ve long admired, he has never had the opportunity to play NCEL and has jumped at the chance to get involved at Westella. A very hard working player who can play the game.

“All three players have joined at the right time for me. We have players injured, away on holiday and suspensions so it goes to show to the lads that if they aren’t pulling their weight or miss a game for whatever reason it may be then they may find it hard to get back in to the side.

“For me it’s a good thing because we now have further strength and depth in quality in what we are already finding to be a very demanding league.”
