Win for Brighouse in end to end clash

Ernest Boafo sealed Brighouse’s win from the penalty spot

Brighouse Town maintained their excellent start to the Evo Stik Division One North season with a hard-fought 5-3 victory over resurgent Prescot Cables.

If the entertainment served up continues on Brighouse’s new Monday midweek slot then attendances will only rise at the Dual Seal Stadium.

The match swung from end to end in a game that would have a straightforward win for Brighouse a few weeks ago when Prescot were a hopeless cause.

That has since changed with a change of management which has inspired them to three consecutive victories.

By half-time in West Yorkshire, Town manager Paul Quinn was furious with his side as after taking the lead through Steve Hollingworth and then conceding twice through Lloyd Dean and Joseph Nicholson.

Words were clearly exchanged at the interval as Brighouse came out like a house on fire.

Inside a minute, Ernest Boafo had burst through Prescot’s increasingly shaky defence and supplied Danny Facey with a simple tap-in.

The lead was soon taken through Ryan Hall, who ran powerfully at the Prescot defence before applying a drilled finish.

Prescot then failed to deal with the long ball and Facey was on then receiving end – opening the door for his second and Brighouse’s fourth.

Even then it wasn’t game over because a deflected strike from Robert Doran brought the visitors back into it.

A few nervy minutes followed until a careless foul on Martin Allison allowed Boafo to wrap the points up from the penalty spot.
