Paul Quinn has hailed Brighouse Town’s excellent start to the Evo Stik Division One North campaign.

After nine games, Brighouse are highest placed Yorkshire side in the Division by sitting in seventh place – a point off the play-offs.

Brighouse have only lost twice and Quinn told Non League Yorkshire: “It has been a fantastic and positive start to the season.

“We want to be in the mix as long as we can be. As I said from the outset when I spoke to you at the start of the season, we’re not going to settle for mediocrity.

“We want to push on and move the club on.

“I think the points return we have got so far is really positive.

“We’ll remain under the radar because no-one ever fancies Brighouse and we’ll keep plodding away.

“We have a really tough month coming up if you look at the fixtures we have got.”

Brighouse have a second Saturday without a game – this time because of the FA Trophy fixtures.

They did manage to fit a match in on Monday night – the 5-3 win over Prescot Cables at home.

Brighouse were losing 2-1 at the interval, but the lead was quickly taken in the second half.

Quinn added: “I thought for the first 20 minutes we were completely dominate and played with a real intensity.

“We then took our foot off the gas and allowed them back in. To say we were at half-time is an understatement.

“We just let them back in the game. At home on a Monday night we have to punish sides when we get ahead.

“As bad as we were at the end of the first half, I thought we were outstanding in the second half.

“We could have won it more comfortably. We have to make sure we are consistent over 90 minutes and not let sides back in games.”
