Harrogate Railway ended a run of defeats to beat Glasshoughton Welfare 4-1 in the West Riding County Cup first round tie at Station View.
Toolstation NCEL Division One side Glasshoughton gave a very good account of themselves, but Harrogate took their chances.
Dan Barrett, who played for Glasshoughton last season under Jon Miles, scored twice for Railway.
Whilst Barrett and Vincent Dhesi went close for Railway in the first few minutes before Ryan Smith was inches away from giving Glasshoughton a shock lead.
Eventually Railway took control by ending the first half very strongly. Railway captain Dan Thirkell scored from a corner to fire his side ahead.
Barrett then broke clear and neatly finished past Welfare goalkeeper Jordan Watson for the second goal.
Barrett also had an effort cleared off-the-line.
Thirkell played a part in the third which arrived ten minutes into the second half. His header came crashing back off the post and centre-half Alex Low was on hand to score.
Welfare had a period of pressure which saw Smith narrowly miss the target again. A quick counter attack did force Glasshoughton’s deserved goal and Regan Fish was the player who coolly finished.
It did give Glasshoughton brief hope of a dramatic comeback until Barrett spectacularly curled an effort from distance into the top corner.
