Westella VIP are not playing at full potential, but Leon Sewell is content with his side’s current placing in the Toolstation NCEL Division One table.
Westella did initially struggle to acclimatise to the NCEL having played most of the top sides in the opening two months.
But now Westella are chasing their fourth consecutive league win when they travel to perennial crisis club Lincoln Moorlands Railway tomorrow.
Sewell said: “We are still not quite there.
“We are probably 65% / 70% there because there are still one or two players to come back.
“There is also one player who may be joining us.
“We have to dust ourselves and go again on Saturday. The league is our main priority so the defeat to Selby has not undone the last three wins because they are massive points.
“It has taken a long time to get into the league so we have to make sure we get established and consolidate.
“I’ve told the lads that I want to get in the top ten. That was the target from the offset so nothing has changed and we are in a good position.”
Speaking to Non League Yorkshire in mid-September, Sewell said the step-up from Central Midlands League was bigger than people realised.
Expanding his comment, Sewell said: “The whole spectrum of it is different.
“You go from step seven to step six and you’re playing against some well-organised established sides and there is no free games.
“There are some games in the Central Midlands League that you can earmark and have three points before you have even played.
“That’s no disrespect to the Central Midlands League because there are some good sides in there and are well-run.
“There are others who did not do things right and it is a bit demeaning.”
