Westella VIP made it four league wins in the bounce as they travelled to bottom of the league side Lincoln Moorlands Railway, returning with a 2-1 victory.
The opening 15 minutes where very intense by both side, as the hosts broke away on the attack, Westella VIP pinched the ball seeing Callum Harrison latch on to a through ball with time to pick his pass he pulled the ball across the face of the Lincoln goal and on hand was top scorer Chris Spinks to fire home the opener.
The hosts had some joy going forward but where duly thwarted by the back four with James Williamson most notably making numerous blocks on his man.
A prolonged period of pressure from Westella VIP saw them with a corner, Coverdale whipped the ball in to a dangerous area which fell to Spinks on the edge of the box, Spinks shot was fumbled by the Lincoln goalkeeper allowing Alex Wood to fire home to rebound for 2-0 only to be deemed off side from the original shot by Spinks.
Westella began the second half coming straight out of the blocks working the ball around the Lincoln half of the pitch and on 55 minutes Alex Wood flicked a ball between his full back and the central defender seeing Spinks through on goal, Spinks jinxed by both oncoming defenders only to be brought down for a penalty. Spinks dusted himself down and fired home for his and Westella’s second of the day.
Joe McFadyen was introduced shortly and made an instant impact as Spinks delivered a perfect cross seeing McFadyen hit a first time volley only for the home keeper to be as equal keeping the ball out.
Callum Harrison wasted two snap shot opportunities with 15 minutes to go as the bouncing ball twice fell awkwardly to no avail.
With ten minutes left the referee seemed to lose focus on the game making some bizarre decision, Alex Wood out jumping a Lincoln defender in a fair challenge receiving a caution but what amassed all decisions was the Lincoln player kicking the grounded Garry Flounders in the head off the ball with no action taken.
A long punt from the hosts into the Westella VIP box was dealt with and as the ball was helped back into the VIP area a mass of Lincoln Moorlands players who where all stood offside saw Gav Mackie aimlessly tap the ball home with the linesman and referee allowing the goal to stand.
Westella saw out the remainder of the game with a couple of good saves from Nathan Otley in goal and both Spinks and Harrison had opportunities in the final few minutes.
Westella VIP manager Leon Sewell: “Fair play to Lincoln Moorlands they had a very good go at us today and sooner or later I’d expect them to move off the foot of the table.
“They caused us a few problems but credit to the lads today, we defended very well and it was a bit of a frustrating afternoon for the attacking players who should of had a bag full of goals at the end of 90 minutes.
“Today was all about attitude, character and commitment and to put our wrongs right from the FA Vase defeat. From the outset it was all about three points and we got them.”
