Nick Handley reckons Pontefract Collieries are starting to consistently turn out the expected level of performances.
Handley has now completed his first month in sole control of the Collieries and he has guided his side to two wins, one draw and three defeats in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.
The victories have elevated Pontefract up the table and into mid-table so Handley is pleased.
Although he does admit that there is still room for improvement.
“I feel we have steadied the ship,” Handley told Non League Yorkshire.
“Against Nostell last time out in the league we conceded two sloppy goals which wasn’t like us, but we have been tough to beat in the last month.
“We went to Bridlington before that and they were hanging on at the end to get a win.
“The lads are fighting for each other. We have the lads up front Radders (Liam Radford) and Mox (Aaron Moxam) scoring goals so we feel we are heading the right way.
“We have four tough league matches at home on the bounce – Albion, Retford, Rainworth, Cleethorpes – but if we can take the majority of points from them we will have done well.
“I expect us to be comfortably in mid-table and pushing for the top half by the end of the season and the lads know that.
“But, we have to be consistent over 90 minutes and that’s what has to improve.”
Pontefract are at home to Cleethorpes Town at Beechnut Lane tomorrow afternoon.
Non League Yorkshire’s charity tournament takes place tonight (Friday). The event is scheduled to finish at 10pm and you can pay on the door. Email info@nonleagueyorkshire.com or click HERE for further information.
