Nigel Corner has returned to Evo Stik Division One North side Harrogate Railway as acting chairman.

Corner was a popular chairman of the Station View club until his shock resignation in June – a month after appointing Lee Ashforth as Billy Miller’s successor.

Railway said in a statement: “Nigel returns to the club during Harrogate Railway’s 80th Anniversary season and one that sees the team in transition, with Lee Ashforth in his inaugural season as Railway’s first team manager, rebuilding the squad after Billy Miller left in the summer.

“The club is now looking to capitalise on the successful season, both on and off the pitch last year and build a competitive side for the 2016/17 campaign.

“Harrogate Railway have put in place ambitious plans to improve the services on offer to the community, build strategic relationships with local businesses, ensure there is an environment that is conducive to success and progress in the league.

“Harrogate Railway are continuing the search for a ground sponsor and Nigel’s business acumen and enthusiasm for the role, will ensure that the club achieves the goals that have been set down by the committee and members.

“Nigel is looking forward to working with Alan Smith, Railway’s commercial manager to ensure that the club partners with the right sponsors and grows financially.”
