Rick Addy is urging Yorkshire Amateur to take the same attitude from their narrow West Riding County Cup defeat into the trip to perennial crisis club Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
The Ammers pushed local rivals Garforth all the way in a pulsating clash which saw the Miners score two late goals to sneak into the second round.
It was a completely different performance by the Ammers when compared with the display in the shock defeat to lowly Hall Road Rangers at Bracken Edge last Saturday.
Addy told Non League Yorkshire: “We were really pleased with Tuesday night.
“We played poorly on Saturday so we said the Garforth game was all about the performance.
“We asked them to do certain things differently from Saturday and they did every single one of them.
“We worked hard, hunted in packs and played football when we could.
“We could have won it, but Garforth are a good side going forward. But, the game gives me hope that if we have aspirations to go up that we can play against higher level teams.
“There’s loads of positives to take. Now looking ahead to Lincoln, if we don’t go and put the effort in then you don’t get the rewards.
“That’s what I said after Tuesday night, ‘look what happens if you put the effort in’.”
The Ammers are likely to have new signing Ben Small – the former Garforth Town winger – available.
Star summer signing Danny Hull remains side-lined which frustrates Addy.
“For me it is frustrating because I know what he can do,” he said.
“He’s stopping and starting all the time because his work and injury.
“If we can keep him for next season and all his exams are over and he’s playing every week, we’ll see how good he is.”
