Westella VIP bounced back from last weekend’s defeat with a fantastic performance defeating high flying Bottesford Town 2-0 to end their run of 12 games unbeaten.
Westella began the game looking to make a statement of intent and that they did. Some lively attacking play saw the returning Chris Short create a golden opportunity for Joe McFadyen who drew a good save from Leigh Herrick in the home goal.
Alex Wood beat his full back only for his shot to be deflected drawing another save from Herrick.
Minutes later Wood found himself in a similar position, this time his shot on goal looped up and over Herrick and in to the back of the net for 1-0 to Westella.
With ten minutes to go before the break Short was brought down just outside the Bottesford box for a free kick. Alex Wood took responsibility of firing the ball up and over the wall and into the bottom corner for 2-0.
The hosts began the second half very quickly with great purpose but failed to break down a resolute Westella unit.
With 55 minutes played, a neat one two between Short and captain Matt Fyvie saw Short go through on goal, Short drawing a low save out of the Bottesford keeper.
Two minutes later it was Nathan Otley turn to be alert as he pushed over a the cross bar from a long range effort.
Westella maintained their discipline and nullified any Bottesford threat as they continued to get the ball wide and put crosses into the box.
Herrick fluffed a back pass which fell to Short whom chose to pass instead of shooting himself from distance with an open goal to aim for.
Into the last 20 minutes Bottesford began to commit players forward at any given chance seeing Westella again stick to their instructions and make it hard for the hosts to break them down. Joe McFadyen saw himself through on goal with a quick counter attack firing over from 19 yards.
In an entertaining game with plenty of action Nathan Otley produced a top class double save, firstly low down to his right with his feet and secondly for the rebound that was heading in the top right corner to earn his side the clean sheet.
Westella VIP manager Leon Sewell: “Today was all about attitudes and application and the lads put in one big shift for the club and it was a well earned result that we thoroughly deserved.
“Bottesford are no mugs, a side full of ex professional players with experience is always going to be tough place to go and get a point never mind three.
“The way we defended and attacked today was very pleasing to see and it is a great response from the lads.”
