Hemsworth Miners Welfare went top of the Toolstation NCEL Division One table following a dramatic last gasp 3-2 victory at struggling Grimsby Borough.
Grimsby were leading 2-1 with ten minutes to go and on the cusp of a sensational victory until two late goals broke their hearts.
The fact that the second-bottom side were in front for a long period was remarkable in itself due to their shambolic display in the 13-0 embarrassment at AFC Emley on Saturday.
However, seven changes were made and they clearly made a difference as Grimsby raced into a two goal half-time lead with strikes from Kyle Bensley and Matthew Kennedy.
Shane Kelsey dragged Hemsworth back into the game early on in the second half, but Grimsby managed to hold on until the latter stages.
It took an intervention from an unlikely source in defender Harry Viggars to level matters before Danny Critchlow scored the winner – his first goal since joining Hemsworth last week.
Critchlow’s goal earned Hemsworth their sixth consecutive league win.
If conceding late-on was bad for Grimsby, it became worse when Steve Cooper was sent off for a rash lunge.
