Shaw Lane Aquaforce didn’t mess about in dispatching Spalding United after quick-fire first half goals led them to a 3-0 victory.
Gavin Allott, Joe Thornton and Lee Bennett got the goals as Aquaforce also racked up their seventh clean sheet in a row.
Shaw Lane were actually put under early on. Goalkeeper Ian Deakin, who saved a penalty in the draw with Coalville on Saturday, made two superb stops to keep the home side out.
Spalding then buckled under Aquaforce pressure. Thornton’s defence splitting pass set Allott away and the striker was never going to miss a one-on-one opportunity.
Thornton then got on the score-sheet as Spalding’s defence stood frozen – allowing the attacker to score into an almost empty net.
Star man Thornton set up the third as he unselfishly passed for his former Athersley team-mate Bennett to score a tap-in.
Spalding were lucky that Aquaforce were unable to score a few more as Adam Priestley and Michael Towey almost did.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce: Deakin, Stohrer, O’Brien, Istead, Holt, Radford, Thornhill, Bennett, Priestley, Allott, Thornton. Subs: Darley, Towey, Wafula, Morris.
