Ash Flynn broke his own personal record by scoring the last minute winner in AFC Emley’’s dramatic 3-2 victory at Glasshoughton Welfare.

Flynn has now unbelievably scored 43 times in three months and his precious goal made sure he surpassed his 42-goal haul from the 2012-13 season.

The striker actually missed a penalty when Emley led 2-1, minutes before Nathan Perks scored against his old club to equalise for Glasshoughton.

In an eventful night, the cruel finish was harsh on Glasshoughton.

Welfare had a couple of early half chances and they took the lead on ten minutes when Kingsley Wetherald flicked the ball to Perks who drilled past Adam Lawlor.

Emley hit back on twenty two minutes when a ball from the right went over the Welfare defence and  Sam Scrivens clipped the ball past Jordan Watson..

The visitors came close again as Flynn shot wide and then a free-kick hit the Welfare bar.

At the other end a Josh Morley free-kick was headed for a corner and then there was desperate defending by the visitors as two close range shots at goal were hacked away. Wetherald also saw a volley from the edge of the area held under the crossbar by Lawlor.

After 41 minutes some of the floodlights failed.  The game resumed some fifteen minutes later and in added time Tom Brennan headed a cross home to put Emley ahead.

Welfare’s Brett Bate then tangled with an Emley player which led to a mass melee amongst most of the players with the visiting substitutes also getting involved. When order was restored Bate was sent off and Brennan was cautioned.

Five minutes into the second half Ashley Scothern fouled an Emley player in the penalty area and Flynn should have added to his huge goal tally but his spot kick struck a post.  A few minutes later an Alex Hallam volley was brilliantly turned over the bar by Watson who then saved at the feet of Flynn.

Welfare equalised on seventy five when a fierce Josh Morley free-kick was blocked on the edge of the area.  The ball found its way back into the Emley area and it was poked home by Perks.

On eighty five minutes Morley saved Welfare when heading off the line and then Watson made another great save low down to his right.

Just as it looked like Welfare were going to earn a much needed point they were undone in the final minute. Blaine Kellett saw a driven ball skim off his head and it reached an Emley player on the right. The ball was played into the penalty area and Flynn headed his 43rd goal of the season home.

  1. That is how football goes Andrew. If every team scored every chance they made there would be goals galore every game. Emley missed loads yes but Glasshoughton also missed a few.
