Selby Town broke the all-time biggest victory record for the Northern Counties East League by putting 14 past crisis club Lincoln Moorlands Railway, who embarrassingly turned up with just eight players.

The margin of victory took Selby past Tadcaster Albion’s 13-0 demolition of Bildworth from the 1997/98 season.

A club breaking the NCEL record has been on the cards for some time after a string of heavy score-lines in the past few seasons.

Lincoln have been involved in most of them and their latest battering wasn’t helped by the unknown whereabouts of three players, who failed to appear after allegedly getting caught in heavy traffic.

Ultimately the eight who showed up were lambs to the slaughter as Selby broke their own club record victory as well.

Lincoln’s goalkeeper Garry Doran did receive some praise as he prevented Selby from going over the 20-goal mark.

Selby were seven-nil ahead by the interval – Jordan Cooper, Danny Bunch (2), Louis Rowbottom, Luke Anderson and Danny Norton (2) scoring.

Anderson scored three times in the second half to grab four, while Norton hit a second half brace to reach the same figure.

Jack Binns also found the net. The record breaking goal was secured in the final two minutes when Brenton Leister scored from the penalty spot.

Selby Town: Gibson, Banks, Binns, J Cooper, L Rowbottom, Ramsey, Leister, Forrester, Chamberlain, Bunch, Norton. Subs: Anderson, B Cooper, Mitchell, B Rowbottom.
