New Glasshoughton Welfare joint managers Craig Wilkinson and Simon Houghton
Craig Wilkinson admits taking the Glasshoughton Welfare joint managers job was the right opportunity for him and Simon Houghton.
The pair are over a week into their tenure at Leeds Road after replacing Mick Norbury and gearing up for a trip to Hallam tomorrow.
The role is Wilkinson’s first in a number one position having previously served as a coach at Worsbrough Bridge and Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
He was also Houghton’s assistant at Kinsley Boys last season.
Wilkinson, who played for a few teams in the NCEL, told Non League Yorkshire: “I’ve stopped playing now, not at NCEL level as my fitness is not what it used to be.
“I love the buzz of football, the dressing room, the banter so being here works for me and Simon.
“Glasshoughton appealed to both of us.
“Before the Glasshoughton job came up there were a couple of offers for myself and Simon, but separately.
“We know we work well together so we were waiting for the opportunity to come up so we could work together and this is it.”
Houghton and Wilkinson had a good start to life in the hot-seat at Leeds Road last week after a 97th minute equaliser rescued a point in the 3-3 draw with Yorkshire Amateur.
The Glasshoughton team contained several new faces. More are likely to feature in the coming weeks
Wilkinson added: “We need more of what we got against Yorkshire Amateur.
“We are still looking to bring a couple of players in so we will rotating the squad tomorrow.
“We’re still also getting to know the players and it will probably take until January to do so.
“But, if we can pick results up on the way, it is all positive.”
