Former Glasshoughton Welfare manager Rob Hunter is the new assistant manager of Garforth Town.

The appointment has timed superbly as Hunter’s first game at Adrian Costello’s side will be against his former club Tadcaster Albion on Boxing Day.

Former Leeds United midfielder Mark Ford has been confirmed as their first team coach. Ford has been assisting Costello for the past month, but his work commitments as a train driver restricts his availability.

Hunter is an excellent addition to Costello’s coaching staff as he has a huge pedigree for NCEL football.

Hunter played for Tadcaster during his playing days before spending four years there as Paul Marshall’s number two – helping them win promotion and the NCEL President’s Cup.

Back in the late 1999s he and Dave Fell guided Harrogate Railway to promotion – before a spell with Harrogate Town.

On the management front, he has held the reins at Bardsey and most recently Glasshoughton Welfare. At Glasshoughton he starved off the threat of relegation during the 2012-13 season.

Last season he was Brian Davey’s assistant manager at Knaresborough Town. He left that role in the summer because of family and work commitments.

Hunter met Garforth’s players for the first time tonight at their weekly training session.
