Paul Quinn believes the 5-1 defeat to Witton Albion before Christmas could be a decisive moment in Brighouse Town’s season.
Quinn was absolutely furious with the loss and ordered his players to respond by beating Scarborough Athletic on Bank Holiday Monday.
His players duly did thanks to Adam Wilson’s late strike and Quinn reckons the Witton defeat could provide the springboard for a successful second half of the Evo Stik Division One North season.
“I wasn’t happy at all with the Witton defeat because we were appalling that day,” Quinn told Non League Yorkshire.
“We have had to make some big decisions since then because we are not going to accept a performance like that again.
“We pulled them in early for the Scarborough game and we remedied it.
“I’ve said to the players that these things sometimes happen for a reason and we want to take positives out of it.
“It gave everyone a kick up the backside and any complacency that was creeping has been well and truly swept under the carpet.
“I know it sounds stupid, but the Witton defeat could be the best thing that could have happen to us this season.
“I think it has given everyone a reality check in terms of what we need to do so that come April we have done ourselves justice in the league.
“We have probably dropped more points than I would have liked to have done in the last four or five weeks.
“We have to try and stick another run together and climb towards the top five.
“It is in sight and we have to keep pushing. There are lots of points available, teams are beating each other and we have to try and stay in the mix.”
Brighouse are due to travel to Lancaster City on Saturday.
