Pontefract Collieries have signed former Bradford (Park Avenue) playmaker Matty James.

James arrives on the back of the recent arrivals of midfielder Josh Wright and young Retford United striker Brad Kerr.

James played for Avenue in the National League North and has also had two spells with Farsley Celtic.

Wright arrived from Goole, but is best known for his spells with Ossett Albion and Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Kerr has developed a growing reputation for scoring goals from his time with Worsbrough Bridge last season.

The trio are likely to feature for Pontefract in their friendly with Harrogate Railway at Beechnut Lane on Wednesday night (kick-off 7.30pm).

New Pontefract manager Craig Parry said: “We have a few more irons in the fire and we are looking to bring players who have Evo Stik experience to the club.

“We want players who we bring in to be with us for the next 18 months.

“We as a management team (Parry and assistants Nigel Danby and Craig Rouse) have watched a lot of games recently and taken in a lot of players.

“For the second half of the season we want to build on our current form and as a club put things in place for next season.”

Aside from the friendly in midweek, Pontefract visit Armthorpe Welfare on Saturday in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.
