Ten man Stocksbridge edged past Daventry Town in a five-goal thriller at Bracken Moor.

The win returned Stocksbridge to winning ways and put them back on course for a challenge for the play-offs spots.

Harrison Biggins gave the Steels an early lead with a magnificent free kick which flew into the top corner.

Stocksbridge may have then feared for the worst after Adam Hinchliffe was given a straight red card for a challenge on Kieran Fitzgerald.

The dismissal was compounded by Edilson Panzo-Antonio’s equaliser for Daventry.

Instead of collapsing, the Steels seized the initiative as Lumsden raced clear just over the halfway line – going onto score with a low finish on the half-time hooter.

The former Armthorpe Welfare striker then gave Stocksbridge a dream start to the second half. With only 16 seconds gone, a terrible mistake from Daventry’s defence was capitalised on by Lumsden, who duly increased his side’s lead.

Barry Deacon dragged Daventry back into and Stocksbridge, who held out for the win, did survive a few calls as the visitors desperately searched for a equaliser.

Stocksbridge Park Steels (starting line-up): D Reay, Meade, Coleman, Hincliffe, McFadyen, M Reay, Maw, Biggins, Ruthven, Lumsden, Gregory.
