A wonder strike from Harrison Biggins from just inside his own half sealed Stocksbrige Park Steels’ victory over Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday night.

The late goal secured Stocksbridge a second consecutive league win and put them back into the race for the play-offs.

Stocksbridge faced a tough test against a side that surprised many by winning at Stafford Rangers on Saturday.

The Steels actually missed a penalty early on after Biggins was hauled to the floor. The normally-reliable Rory Coleman sent his spot kick over the crossbar.

Young Sheffield United attacker Spencer Maw soon made up for Coleman’s mistake by putting Stocksbridge in front after breaching their back-line.

A free kick from Anthony Malbon levelled matters before half-time. The scores remained tied until the final stages when Adam Hinchliffe, sent off on Saturday, found the bottom corner from 25 yards.

The Bracken Moor outfit controversially lost striker Scott Ruthven to a second yellow card, but Biggins ensured the three points with a goal straight out of a David Beckham textbook.

Stocksbridge Park Steels: D Reay, Meade, Coleman, Hinchliffe, McFadyen, M Reay, Maw, Biggins, Ruthven, Lumsden, Gregory. Subs: Rhodes, Litchfield, Poulton, Thompson, Laight.
