Former Harrogate Town centre-back Danny Stimpson has joined Craig Parry’s Pontefract Collieries.

Stimpson, who played a few games for Tadcaster Albion at the start of the season, is set to make his debut at Liversedge on Saturday, if Sedge’s pitch is passed fit for the first time in nearly 100 days.

Stimpson would have made his first appearance for Pontefract against Tadcaster, but the Brewers understandably wanted to hold onto his registration until after the match was played.

Pontefract have also re-signed popular striker Kingsley Wetherald, who leaves Winterton Rangers after a great run of form which has seen him score six times in eight games. He came on as a first half substitute against Tadcaster.

Collieries boss Parry said: “It was disappointing that Danny couldn’t play last night, but I can understand Tadcaster’s point that they didn’t want him playing against them. He’s available on Saturday and he’s a good solid centre-back and we’re looking forward to him joining us.

“We also have Kingsley back. He’s gone away to Winterton and scored a few goals and we just want competition upfront. He’s something different to what we have got. He’s been here before, he’s a real character and a really good lad.

“That’s what we want, really good strong characters who are up for the battle of getting us enough points to stay in this league.”
