Departing forward Danny Barlow helped Penistone Church revitalise their play-offs hopes in his last game for the club.

Barlow, who is heading to Australia with Hemsworth Miners Welfare defender Jack Steers, hit the opener for Church. Club captain Danny Howes doubled the lead before half-time.

Struggling Rossington succumbed to further goals from Lewis Dickinson and Ollie Fearon in the 59th and 70th minute.

The victory was needed for Penistone after the defeat to Selby Town in their last game was a huge dent in their bid for the top six.

Penistone Church manager Ian Richards: “This was an excellent response, performance and result today to convincingly Rossington Main 4-0. Some of the football played was of the highest quality but the most pleasing aspect was the clean sheet. A fitting farewell to Danny Barlow who was exceptional a pleasure to watch at times. We wish him all the best down under and look forward to welcoming him back next season.”

Rossington Main: Dye, Wiffen, Billam, Wright, Woodhall, Cooper, Kearsley, Hatton, Ellis, Holmes, Stokes. Subs: Walker, Watson, Wilkinson, Harte, Humphreys.
Penistone Church: Rhodes, Richards, Young, Ellis, Cadzow, Lovell, Howes, Dickinson, Fearon, Barlow, Joynes. Subs: Moore, Lee, Kenworthy, Ling, Whitehead.

Shirebrook Town 5-2 Winterton Rangers

Winterton Rangers’ three-match winning run was halted at Shirebrook.

After the outstanding victory over promotion candidates AFC Mansfield last week, the trip to Shirebrook was a bridge too far for improving Winterton.

Winterton made a good fist of it after equalising after conceding early on, but promotion hopefuls Shirebrook managed to pull away. Rangers also lost their goalkeeper to injury in the second half.
