Interim manager Kev Allsop is backing Nostell Miners Welfare to cause an upset against title contenders Cleethorpes Town tomorrow night.
Allsop, in charge for the foreseeable future after the departure of Paul Lines 24 hours before the draw with Garforth Town on Friday night, believes his side have the capabilities to complete a sensational double over Cleethorpes. Nostell surprised many by winning at Cleethorpes on the opening day of the season.
“If we give the same dogged determined display defensively and central midfield-wise as we did on Friday night and on the first day then we are going to frustrate Cleethorpes,” Allsop told Non League Yorkshire.
“We are not there to roll over and I do have my plan b and c to try and carry an attacking threat. If I’m honest, I’m looking for three points. I think with Cleethorpes and other sides that I have seen this season, they try and dictate the play.
“Sometimes when you pose a question which is if we try and stop you going through us, round us or over us, how are you going to score? Like any team at this level, you’re always susceptible to the counter-attack and we have pace to burn out, particularly out wide. I think we can carry a threat.
“What we have struggled with recently is end product like at Thackley over a week ago where we basically came away with a defeat after dominating large parts of the game. We struggled with the end product, but we have pace to burn which will threaten teams.”
