Evo Stik Division One North
Northwich Victoria 5-0 Ossett Town
Ossett Town lost for the eighth consecutive time in Division One North after a nightmare evening at promotion-chasing Northwich Victoria.
The losing run is their worst in recent memory and they remain two points above second-bottom Harrogate Railway ahead of a must-win game with fellow strugglers Radcliffe Borough on Saturday.
Two players even got caught in traffic and didn’t make it for kick off. Fortunately Ossett were able to start with eleven players. Surprisingly Ossett started well, but the ceiling soon collapsed once as Northwich went in front on 18 minutes.
The floodgates literally opened. Richie Bennett drove the first one home and that was quickly followed by an own goal from Town captain Simon Rogers.
Gaz Burnett added the third with calmly-taken strike before Iain Howard ensured that Northwich were home and horsed by half-time with a pile-driver.
Ossett, now staring down the barrel of a cricket score, managed to escape with only conceding one more goal – Howard getting it with a near post finish.
Debutant goalkeeper Ben Hunter pulled Ossett out of the fire later on with a good double save.
Ossett Town: Hunter, Fishley, Quinlan, Shelton, Rogers (captain), Rupere, Moke, Lyn, Moore, Mangham, Fogarty. Subs: Wood, Ojo.
