Evo Stik Division One North
Ossett Town have relieved Graham Nicholas of his duties after eight straight league defeats.
Nicholas was only appointed in November, but results have rapidly deteriorated and the club now lie in serious relegation danger after their worst losing streak in recent memory.
He leaves without a single league victory, although he did win both his Integro League Cup matches. In all he took charge of eleven games. His only point was from the draw with Brighouse Town.
He left Garforth Town, where he enjoyed two solid seasons, to replace John Reed, but the move has simply not worked out.
Nicholas, who in fairness lost a lot of experienced Evo Stik players including captain Steve Jeff, Sam Akeroyd, Chris Ovington and Tom Morgan in the first few weeks of his reign, took eleven players from Garforth, but most struggled to acclimatise to the step-up.
Former Burnley striker John Francis, Ossett’s reserves and u19s manager, will take charge of the home must-win relegation clash with Radcliffe Borough on Saturday and the League Cup tie with Darlington 1883.
Ossett are inviting applications for the role and candidates are asked to contact chairman James Rogers.
So the move from Garforth Town hasn,t worked out has it ! As was said above he took lots of players from Garforth Town ,leaving the new Garforth manager facing a massive rebuilding job , which he has taken on with enthusiasm whilst the results have gone against us .
Happens to all managers eventually and he can only gain experience from it. Surprised he went in the first place as Osset town were in freefall already. It’s certainly a dogfight now between Osset and Harrogate railway now to stay up. Talking of Garforth i genuinely think they need to be wary too as one wonders where the next win is coming from as other clubs are catching and overtaking them.
True , it has been something of a struggle to get results since Graham left , but surely most teams would struggle when they lose the amount of players we lost .
Absolutely, any team would struggle when half a team bail out. I don’t know the ins and outs at Garforth but with Simpson back would it hurt to get the likes of Mangham, Rupere and Hawksworth back to steady the ship and make sure of safety? Assuming the new Osset manager doesn’t want them. Im aware McCarthys been injured for most of the season and if they could get him fit and back in defence for the run in then they can turn it round. I know he’s not featured at all for Osset town due to injury and could have made a big difference to them, I thought he was Garforth best player last season. Games are coming thick and fast and for me need at least four wins to guarantee safety.
Player follow their manager. Graham took 5 players initially and left Garforth With a team capable of beating armthorpe and apparently played the best football all season?? its time you stop blaming Graham for your results and got on with it. Once Graham left it was the new managers job to recruit players , if he hasn’t done that it’s not grahams fault. He left you 7th in the league with 3 games in hand and in all league cups, it’s been your to loose. Things may not have worked at ossett but at least he had the ambition to try !
