Welford steps in to rescue Athersley

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Pickering Town 1-1 Athersley Rec

Declan Welford scored a dramatic late equaliser for Athersley Rec who moved closer to safety.

It was an emotional afternoon as Pickering remembered popular Tadcaster barmaid Sonny Lang, who passed away a few days ago. Sonny was a good friend of Pickering boss Paul Marshall and several of his players. A minute’s applause was held.

Calum Ward’s early first half goal appeared to be enough for Pickering until Welford intervened.

Thackley 4-2 Albion Sports

It was always going to be difficult for Albion Sports after captain Asif Hussain was sent off after just 29 seconds.

Garforth Town 0-1 Cleethorpes Town

Close, but no cigar after a brave effort against one of the title contenders.

Garforth, seeking their first win of 2016, gave a really good of themselves and missed several glorious chances.

The late sending-off of Cleethorpes’ Daniel Trott for a strong challenge on Jordan Outerbridge must have initially got Garforth thinking it was their day. However, two minutes later Cleethorpes struck the winner when Brody Robertson converted Alex Flett’s free kick.

Parkgate 2-3 Barton Town Old Boys

Barton are back in the frame for a potential top five finish after a hard-fought win at relegation-threatened Parkgate. Gareth Owen and Alex Sherwood scored for Barton, who were also helped by an own goal from Alex Higgins.

Andy Norfolk and Joel Sutton struck as Bridlington maintained the pressure on their title rivals.
