Evo Stik Division One North
Scarborough Athletic 1-0 Radcliffe Borough
Steve Kittrick finally claimed a set of three points as Scarborough won in the league for the first time since early November.
Young Jamie Forrester was the hero with the second half winner which eases their relegation fears and deepens Radcliffe’s problems. It was a must-win game for both sides, especially because of the arrival of heavy-duty players at Harrogate Railway and Ossett Town, who are now likely to have a surge in momentum.
Scarborough’s winless league stretched back to their victory over New Mills in November and the build-up to such an important fixture was dominated by the news that the club need to address a £25,000 shortfall.
By taking all three points yesterday, the players must have lifted morale in a small way.
The Seadogs dominated the first half without scoring. Luckily Forrester, who started the season at Selby Town, was on hand to score at the back-post straight after the interval.
Veteran Jody Banim gave the home side a scare after hitting the post. Banim also forced a terrific save out of Nick Draper in a separate attack.
That was the last of Radcliffe’s endeavours and the game ended on a further sour note as James Forbes was sent off for violent conduct.
Scarborough held on comfortably. Relief was the operative word.
