Garforth Town players celebrated the life of supporter Ralph Backhouse by wearing t-shirts spelling #oneofourown during the minutes’ silence.

Long-term Miners supporter Ralph sadly passed away at the weekend. Although they didn’t get him the victory, going out of the League Cup allows Adrian Costello and his side to concentrate on their remaining Premier Division fixtures.

Kieron Watson gave Staveley an early lead with a header and almost doubled it with an effort that Miners goalkeeper Tom Osbourne somehow kept out.

Adam Scott did add the second goal for Staveley with 15 minutes remaining. Defender Gregg Kidd brought Garforth back into it, but Staveley held out in an end-to-end finish.

Garforth Town: Osbourne, J Alali (captain), Robertson, Jones, McCrum, Kidd, Conway, McMillan, Simpson, Preece, Harris. Subs: McCarthy, Simpkins, K Alali, Lund.
