Pontefract finally ended their eleven-match winless run after picking up a crucial three points at Retford.
Full-back Josh Corbett gave the Colls the perfect start after scoring with a wonder strike – his first goal of the season.
Retford hit back with 20 minutes to go through Gareth Campion.
But Pontefract refused to give up on the chance of maximum points and substitute and assistant Craig Rouse fired the Colls in front again with five minutes left.
The win was sealed during injury-time when Steve Palfrey struck.
