Worsbrough Bridge need a new manager for the final push in their survival battle after Mark Joyce resigned.

Joyce and his assistant Phil Jacobs fell on their swords after the 3-1 at Grimsby Borough, citing that “the timing was right to give the club the best chance of escaping relegation from the NCEL”.

Bridge have eleven games and they are seven points adrift of safety. They have not won for 14 matches and their last win came at the end of November. Joyce leaves with his head held high as he has done well to keep the team playing, even with all the off-the-field problems.

Worsbrough say they will be evaluating the candidates to replace Joyce in the coming days, but it is unclear who will lead the team into the visit of Hemsworth on Tuesday night. Bridge also have the must-win trip to Hall Road Rangers on Thursday.

Acting chairman Mark Booth said: “Mark and Phil have served the club loyally at U19’s and first team level and their commitment during a difficult period should not be underestimated.

“Throughout this season they have both acted with dignity whilst maintaining a determination and enthusiasm that many others would not have been able to maintain.

“I know that the decision was difficult for both of them, but it shows the class that both have to leave at a time when there is still points to play for and with games in hand on the teams around us. Mark and Phil will always be welcome at Park Road and I know everyone at the club will wish them success in their next roles.”
