Garforth Town 0-2 Barton Town Old Boys
Gareth Owen’s double strike on the stroke of half-time was all Barton Town Old Boys needed to secure their victory in East Leeds.
Owen’s goals keep Barton in with a chance of climbing into the top six, whilst continuing Garforth’s bad run which stems back to the end of the last year.
Barton’s solid experience showed in the way they soaked up Garforth’s early pressure, scored the two goals and then comfortably saw out the second half.
Garforth winger Tim Robertson, the scorer of a wonder goal on Saturday, was inches away from scoring another in an early foray forward. Barton goalkeeper Robert Zand also made a good save from Ash Preece’s header.
But poor defending cost Garforth. Vastly-experienced Owen got in far too easily for the opener and goalkeeper Tom Osborne should have done far better after conceding at his near post.
The second goal saw the ball bounce about between several players before Owen took control and scored.
Apart from one moment where Mark Simpson got the better of Barton down the left-wing, Garforth caused their visitors few problems in the second half. Barton, on the other hand, had chances to put the game to bed.
