Star striker Joe Thornton runs to Lee Morris’ father Paul after Matt Thornhill put Shaw Lane Aquaforce 3-1 in front at Nostell Miners Welfare last year

Lee Morris believes new signing Joe Thornton will score the goals to propel Goole AFC to safety.

The vastly-experienced forward makes the move from Athersley Rec, but Morris has had to do a deal with old club Shaw Lane Aquaforce for his Evo Stik registration.

Morris now has an exciting frontline line-up of Nathan Joynes, Nick Guest and Thornton, who boasts Staveley, Tadcaster and Ossett Albion as some of his other former clubs.

“It is a massive signing for Goole and he’s going to give us a massive push towards safety,” Morris told Non League Yorkshire.

“I must thank (Shaw Lane director of football) Doug O’Connor and (chairman) Craig Wood for making it possible.

“He’s not just a massive signing because of his playing ability, but also because he’s a class act in the dressing room.

“He brings experience and quality. He has scored goals wherever he has been and in whatever positions he plays. To get him someone of his quality at this stage of the season is fantastic. I’m absolutely delighted to finally get him here.”

Thornton will make his Goole debut at Daventry Town tomorrow.
