Handsworth Parramore have been left devastated by the passing away of their club secretary David Wragg.
A club statement said: “At this sad time, our thoughts and prayers are with Dave’s wife June and his family and friends.
“Dave Wragg has been instrumental in the progress of our club both on and off the pitch. He courageously picked up the ‘Wragg Amber flag’ after his brother Mick tragically passed away shortly after helping to form the club.
“Dave’s countless hours of dedicated work and support to the club and everyone around it for close on forty years is a truly remarkable contribution in the history of our club, helping to provide so much for so many.
“The overwhelming outpouring of admiration for gentlemen Dave from all walks of life in the past twenty-four hours really does speak volumes of the man and his family who supported his relentless hours of volunteering for the club for so many years.”
Club president Bob Hill said added: “Not only has football lost a dedicated, passionate and true gentleman, I have lost a true friend.
“The devastating news has been very hard to take in as it’s something you don’t want to believe. But, it is as a friend I will miss Dave greatly who gave me support and guidance especially through my bad times. My thoughts are with June and the family at this sad time.”
Club chairman John Ward said: “Today, we have lost a true gent, dear friend and mentor who has guided Handsworth to where it is now. Thoughts with June & family. Love you Dave. Your dream will be delivered and I know you are still with us all the way. Keep correcting me when needed, your support is invaluable.”
