Crisis club Hull United are to be deducted 12 points after failing to register two ‘contracted’ players correctly, pending an appeal.
The error recently came to light after a club made an approach for one of those players. The maximum punishment the league can hand down is 12 points.
A statement from the league said: “The club applied for a personal hearing to answer these charges under League Rule 6.9 and a sub-committee of the league’s management board, empowered with full power subject to board ratification which has now been received, met to hear the case.
“The board carefully considered the club’s comments, noting their acceptance of guilt and pleas of non-intention of breaking the rules.
“However, the board found the club guilty of these offences and advised the club of a twelve (12) point deduction advising them of their right of appeal to The FA under League Rule 17.4.”
