Shaw Lane Aquaforce 3-1 Leek Town
Title-chasing Shaw Lane Aquaforce took full advantage of leaky Leek Town’s defensive frailties to keep the pressure on runaway leaders Stafford Rangers.
Aquaforce are ten points behind Stafford with three games-in-hand after an easy win over a side that has a good chance of finishing in the play-offs.
Shaw Lane’s three goals came from set-pieces. The first one saw Matt Thornhill float a corner into the six-yard box. Every Leek defender literally stood still and allowed the unmarked Lee Bennett to place the ball home.
Leek’s defence was again a shambles for the second and third goals. Jono Wafula was gifted a tap-in for his first of the night. The midfielder then headed home to double his personal tally. Both goals saw Leek’s defence stand and watch.
There were multiple more opportunities for Aquaforce to increase their score in the second half – Adam Priestley was denied in the most prominent chance.
Other than that Aquaforce saw it out expertly. The only blip was the defensive confusion that led to Tim Grice grabbing a consolation for Leek in the dying seconds.
