Evo Stik Division One North
Ossett Albion 0-4 Spennymoor Town
Ossett Albion were unable to stop Spennymoor Town from extending their winning run to 12 matches.
The first half was entertaining end to end football in spite of the windy conditions. Spennymoor created the best of the chances but were unable to put the ball into the net until 3 minutes from the interval.
The Albion defence had coped well until then considering they were without Danny South at centre-back. Then a free-kick was floated into the area and Brett Souter, the Albion goalkeeper, came to claim the ball but was beaten to it. Andrew Stephenson got his head to the ball first and it looped over the stranded Souter to give the visitors the lead.
The second half got off to the worst possible start for Albion when they lost the ball in midfield. A long ball forward put David Dowson in on goal with only Souter to beat. He made no mistake and slotted the ball home to double Spennymoor’s lead.
From then on there was only one team in it and Spennymoor missed more chances before Dowson got his second goal in the 68th minute. It came again from another long ball forward which caught out the Albion defence and Dowson made no mistake.
It was then a case of how many more Spennymoor would score. It was only down to them squandering several very good chances that they had to wait until added time to get their 4th goal. After good passing the ball came to Stephenson in the middle of the area to get his second of the match.
