Teversal 0-2 Glasshoughton Welfare

Glasshoughton Welfare got back to winning ways after two consecutive league defeats.
A first half Josh Morley penalty, and a stunning second half 25 yard effort from the lively Ryan Poskitt ensured that the Welfare players returned to West Yorkshire with all three points.
A number of players were missing the game for various reasons but making a welcome return after suspension was influential skipper Jimmy Williams.
Welfare were under some pressure in the first few minutes and goalkeeper Mark Suttle made a good block when Sean Dickinson looked to open the scoring. Lewis Weaver then shot wide whilst at the other end Poskitt dragged an effort wide of a post. Ashley Scothern then just failed to get a good contact from a Poskitt pass.
Welfare took the lead on fifteen minutes when Teversal’s Luke Fisher fouled Kris Fawcett in the area and Morley slotted the resultant penalty past Dale Sheppard.
Fifteen minutes later Fawcett did well in the penalty area again and he lobbed the ball towards goal but Poskitt headed well over.
Scothern thought he had got a second for welfare on 40 minutes when he hit a shot in from eighteen yards but Sheppard managed to push the effort for a corner. Just before half time Welfare had a lucky escape when Suttle fumbled a high ball under pressure. The ball was fired towards goal but new welfare defender Bradley Kilburn headed off the line.
As a result of the incident Suttle received a head injury and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.
Taking his place in goal was new signing, and former popular Welfare keeper Josh Archer, signed from Worsborough Bridge on Friday.
In fairness the young keeper was rarely tested on his second debut mainly watching long range efforts go wide or over the crossbar as the hosts attempted to use the strong wind to try and get something out of the game. The closest they came was from a Fisher header that just cleared the bar
Welfare increased their lead on 66 minutes with a great goal from Poskitt. He collected the ball twenty five yards out and rifled a shot into the net to give Sheppard no chance.
The game petered out somewhat then with neither side able to create any clear cut chances.
Glasshoughton Welfare joint manager Simon Houghton: “This was a good team performance.
“There were a few man of the match performances out there. We had six missing from the squad today, but it was good to have Jimmy (Williams) back. I thought Brad Kilburn did well having not played for six weeks.
“We came here and they were thirteen points in front. We had a good balance and after the two previous defeats it was pleasing to see that they took on board what we said to them before the game.”
