Stocksbridge dented Leek Town’s play-offs hopes and boosted their own chances of clinching a top ten finish.

Just like they were at Shaw Lane in midweek, Leek were poor in defence and Stocksbridge capitalised on that within six minutes. There wasn’t much to Joe Lumsden’s effort, but the ball managed to trickle into the far bottom corner.

Stocksbridge’s control on the game was strengthened on the stroke of half-time when Rory Coleman smashed home a penalty.

The only moment where Stocksbridge were really troubled was on the hour mark – Cropper hitting the crossbar twice in quick succession.

The Steels almost killed the visitors off with 15 minutes to go, but goalkeeper Chris Martin pulled off a tremendous save to deny Jack Poulton. The third goal did arrive soon after, again from Coleman and again from the penalty spot.

Stocksbridge Park Steels: D Reay, Tootle, Coleman, Gregory, McFadyen (captain), M Reay, Hinchliffe, Biggins, Lumsden, Ruthven, Poulton. Subs: Burton, Rhodes, Meade, Laight, Thompson.
