Evo Stik Division One North
Brighouse Town 1-3 Ossett Albion
Rob Bordman struck twice as Ossett Albion made up for the weekend’s defeat to Spennymoor Town.
Youngster Abdou Bojang sealed the points late-on after Ernest Boafo’s 71st minute penalty had brought the home side back into it.
With the wind causing havoc, understandably the teams struggled. As assistant manager Eric Gilchrist pointed out in his interview, Albion handled the conditions better in the first half by pinning Brighouse into deep areas. That helped to force a succession of corners and throw-ins which eventually led to a free kick.
Handing Bordman, arguably the best set-piece taker in the Division, an opportunity like that was always asking for trouble so it was hardly a surprise when his free kick from the edge of the penalty area sneaked past Harry Stead – admittedly with a big deflection.
Albion goalkeeper Brett Souter earned his pennies as half-time approached after denying a through Danny Facey.
The Brighouse striker then went onto miss a sitter straight after the interval – a wasted opportunity that came back to haunt him as Bordman then went through and doubled Ossett’s lead.
A penalty for a Adam Muller handball enabled Boafo to score. Brighouse deserved their goal, but it mattered little as Bojang scored to ensure Ossett went back to Wakefield with three points.
